Shirley Kermer cycles through the Mekong Delta for Home-Start Wandsworth
We owe an enormous amount of gratitude to Shirley Kermer who, in February this year, cycled 500km from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam through the rice-paddies and waterways of the Mekong Delta into Cambodia and onto the Royal Temples of Angkor Wat, raising £4,000 for Home-Start Wandsworth in the process. She cycled between 40 and 90km per day, mostly on mud tracks and in very high humidity, with temperatures in the mid-30s.
Shirley also helped organise the Malwood Road street party in association with the Ascension Church Balham Hill in June, which raised £1700 for us, generously matched by Fidelity UK to make a grand total of £3400.
Thank you so much, Shirley, for this huge effort and generous support.
Charlotte Grobien OBE, gives it away
We are very lucky to be supported by the amazing Charlotte Grobien OBE, who through her company,
Give It Away, donates all the profits from her property business to charity. She is a remarkable philanthropist and we are hugely grateful to her.
Leanne Campbell runs for HSW
Leanne Campbell, one of our dedicated home-visiting volunteers, raised over £1,000 doing the Wimbledon Common half marathon at the end of last year. Huge thanks to her for all she does for Home-Start Wandsworth.
Golden Ticket winner selects HSW
We were excited to receive a cheque for £2,500 from the Western Riverside Waste Authority earlier this year. A huge thank you to Mrs Itani of West Hill, the Golden Ticket winner who nominated us, and, of course, to the WRWA. Find out how you can donate or for other ideas like this to help raise funds.
A Slice of help from Eat Wandsworth
When people sign up for a SLICE card with eatwandsworth they can enjoy deals & events from participating local eateries, with a slice of their bill heading to a local charity, which last month was us! We were also very lucky to receive a £250 donation from the money they raised at their charity football tournament in July, so a big thank you to eatwandsworth and to all those who signed up.
Thank you to Guy Mascolo Football Club
Earlier this summer we were invited to have a table at the Guy Mascolo Football Charity fun run in Battersea Park. It was a lovely sunny morning and many families turned up for the fun run. We met lots of new people who came to see us and learn more about what we do. Thanks for having us, GMFC.
Support from local churches
We are extremely lucky to receive support from several local churches, including Ascension Balham Hill, St Anne’s Wandsworth, St Luke’s in Battersea and Putney Parish Action. They have generously supported us not only with financial donations but also by letting us host events in their churches and sending out armies of parishioners to decorate our offices and some of our families’ homes and to do some impressive garden clearance our most needy families.
Sizzling Summer Sales
A big thank you to both our trustees Sam Wemnys and Maria Kinsella who both kindly hosted our successful summer sales, which together raised over £5,000.
