HSW partners with BAC for family hubs

We are very excited to announce our new partnership with Battersea Arts Centre (BAC). This partnership will allow us to host our HSW family hubs at the Bee’s Knees from Monday 20th February.

We set up the family hubs to work alongside the one-to-one weekly family visits with volunteers, to provide parents with the opportunity to get out and meet new people and learn new things. They have been so successful and popular with the families that we will begin to run them every Monday at the much loved Bee’s Knees, the bright and buzzy indoor space filled with activities and games for children, thanks to the new partnership with BAC.

As many of you know, BAC has a wonderful theatre and many of our families have already enjoyed some of their performances for children. We hope to grow the partnership over time so that our families may also take part in the many other workshops and creative sessions that BAC offer, as well as broadening the Hubs with visiting speakers and entertainment, with the help of BAC staff. This partnership will help both us meet our respective missions. For us to ‘help families with young children deal with the challenges they face, supporting them as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children’ and BAC’s to ‘inspire people to take creative risks to shape the future’. Our shared on-going aim is to bring economically and ethnically diverse families to take part in the Hub at the Bee’s Knees.
Our first initiative will be English conversation classes led by one of our volunteers who is trained to teach English as a second language. These classes will be held in a breakout room at BAC and will be small private classes for Mums who are struggling with their English. This will provide them with focused time to learn while their children play and are looked after by HSW staff and volunteers at Bee’s Knees
We will continue with our cookery lesson hubs so stay tuned if you are a volunteer and would like to involve your family. Here is one of our Mums enjoying her one-to-one cooking lesson from our cooking volunteer, Judy Hargadon.
