On 22 November 2016 we hosted our fundraiser of the year, the Home-Start Wandsworth annual Quiz in Wandsworth Town Hall’s Civic Suite, to raise funds to support local families.
Our first quiz eight years ago was held in a small restaurant on Northcote Rd with just under 50 people. This year a record 280 local supporters battled it out to become the coveted quiz champions. The quiet achievers at the back of the room called ‘Table With No Name’ took this year’s title.
Home-Start Wandsworth’s Chair, Laura Lewis, paid tribute to a small charity that makes a big difference to people’s lives, and praised the skilled volunteers that give up their time to offer friendship and support. She thanked the tireless volunteers who also spent hours of their time cooking, baking and preparing for the Quiz night and who do so every year.
Laura continued by saying how grateful we are for all the support we receive every year at this fun-filled event. This year is particularly crucial as we are operating in an increasingly competitive environment for funding and we are not guaranteed support from regular funders such as the Big Lottery anymore. She emphasised the importance of local businesses and individuals supporting our work.

This year, despite a reduction in funding and serious illness in the team we helped 78 families, which means support for 155 children. In addition to the regular weekly support through home visits, we have built on our coffee hubs model where local families can come together in safe, relaxed environment to meet and support each other. We also organised a number of family outings during the summer and half term holidays for our families and their children.
See you at next year’s Quiz and don’t forget to find out all about our Carol Service on 14 December.
