Your experience could make a huge difference to a local family.
Are you a parent, grandparent or carer who could spare 2-4 hours a week? We are looking for people to join Home-Start Wandsworth’s amazing network of volunteers supporting families with under-5s across the borough through home-visiting and group activities.
You would support families who are finding it difficult to cope and provide them with emotional support, practical help and friendship. You can use the knowledge and experience gained from looking after your own family to support others who are struggling. All you need are empathy, enthusiasm and reliability.
The work of our volunteers makes a profound difference to the families we support. As one mum said “I’m so happy I have Home-Start in my life. I’m so grateful. I’m in the process of getting myself back and giving my children a better mother.”
We serve a wide range of families and value diversity among our volunteers. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and with varied life experience.
We provide all the training, guidance and support you need to be effective and make a real difference. Our training programme helps prepare you to support families, covering a range of topics including coaching, mental health awareness, boundaries and signposting. The next training course will start early 2021. Enquire for more information.
“The prep course is excellent, very informative and reassuring about my role as a volunteer …professional, interesting, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Volunteering with Home-Start Wandsworth will provide you with the opportunity to meet new friends, enhance your wellbeing and develop transferrable skills. “Not only do I use my skills and feel like I’m actually making a difference, but I’ve also learnt a lot from workshops and from the people at Home-Start.”– A Home-Start Volunteer
