Are you an accountant looking for a rewarding non-exec role?Home-Start Wandsworth is looking for an experienced, qualified accountant to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer.
This is an opportunity to use your professional expertise to make a real difference to local families in need, while gaining valuable Board-level experience with a well-established local charity.
The role
Working with the Board and Managing Director, you will:
- Lead the Board’s financial oversight, presenting to the board to provide insight, leadership and challenge on budgets, reporting, financial strategy performance, reserves and future plans.
- Ensure strong financial governance, including effective processes and controls, appropriate policies, compliance with regulatory and funder requirements, and maintenance and oversight of the investment strategy.
- Supervise preparation of the annual accounts and trustees’ report, ensuring they are appropriately scrutinised, approved and submitted.
- Be a trusted financial adviser, supporting the Managing Director and contributing to strategic, funding and fundraising approach decisions.
Day-to-day financial management sits with the staff team – your role is to provide strategic oversight, assurance and expert guidance.
The time commitment averages two hours per week, including around six board meetings per year (about half in person).
About you
You’ll be a qualified accountant with strong financial management experience, sound judgement and the ability to make financial information clear and accessible. You will be familiar with current financial systems and be able to advise the team on the most efficient and effective use of them.
You’ll be collaborative, pragmatic, have good communication skills and be comfortable providing constructive challenge. Charity or trustee experience would be helpful, but is not essential.
