Are you a parent, grandparent or carer with time to help a local family? We are looking for people to join Home-Start Wandsworth’s amazing network of volunteers supporting families with young
children across the borough through home visiting and group activities.
You would support families who are finding it difficult to cope and provide them with emotional support, practical help and friendship. You can use the knowledge and experience gained from looking after your own family to support others who are struggling. All you need are empathy, enthusiasm and reliability. Click here to find out more about becoming a volunteer.
We have a training programme to help prepare you to support families, covering a range of topics including coaching, mental health awareness, boundaries and signposting. After recently completing the course in November, volunteers said “The prep course is excellent, very informative and reassuring about my role as a volunteer” “…professional, interesting, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.”
The work of our volunteers makes a profound difference to the families we support. As one mum said “I’m so happy I have Home-Start in my life. I’m so grateful. I’m in the process of getting myself back and giving my children a better mother.”
Of course, when you volunteer to help others, you’re helping yourself as well. There is a lot of research to prove that volunteering is good for your own wellbeing. “I feel like I get as much out of
volunteering as the families do…it’s amazing to see you’re making a difference, and I’ve gained real friends through Home-Start.” – a volunteer who has been with us for over 8 years.
Volunteering with us requires only 2 to 4 hours a week. Our next preparation course runs for 9 sessions (9:30-14:30) on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 27th February – 27th March 2019, at 20-22 York Road, Battersea, SW11 3QA.
