You are invited to an online class for babies and pre-schoolers run by Learn to Love to Read.
Enjoy Sounds, Songs and Stories with your child
Learn how to develop your child’s language and vocabulary so they are ready to read when they start school.
The 4 sessions are run as a group so important to sign up to all 4 to get the full benefit from it.
Each participant will receive a complimentary book pack to their home from L2L2R. Please sign up early to enable Anna to get these packs to you all.
Join further group classes or get one-to-one advice.
JUBILEE ART COMPETITION REGISTRATION
Home-Start Wandsworth, in collaboration with our local John Lewis store (Peter Jones) are holding a very exciting art competition to celebrate the Queen’s 70th Jubilee.
We’re asking our families to get creative and create an artwork about what the Jubilee and all the fun celebrations means to you. So get drawing, painting, making a collage, papier mache, whatever art work you choose and enter our competition!
There are some amazing art prizes to be won including water colour sets, art sets and top quality pencils.
All our artwork will be displayed in the Partnership dining room at Peter Jones.
The competition will be divided into the following categories:
- Under 3
- Ages 3-4
- Ages 5-8
- Ages 9-11
- Older Children
- Adults
How to create your artworks:
- Jubilee Art and Craft Session – Thursday 12th May 10am – 3pm at HSW Offices. All welcome to pop in for arts, crafts, tea and coffee. Please sign up for this session via Eventbrite link. Sign up here.

How to submit your artworks to the competition:
- Make sure they are clearly labelled with name (and age for children’s entries).
- Hand in at any of the Hubs events.

JUBILEE ARTS & CRAFTS SESSION

An art and craft session as part of our Jubilee Art Competition.
Come along and work on your artistic creation for our Jubilee Art Competition or just come along to do some crafting and to chat! (Sign up here: Jubilee Art Competition Registration)
This is a drop in session for families and you are welcome to come along any time between 10am until 3pm.
We will have Jubilee themed arts and crafts for all members of the family, as well as tea, coffee and juice for the children.
All materials will be provided.
TODDLERS BEHAVING BADLY WITH DR NIKI SALT.
Tuesday 17th May 2022 2pm-3.30pm
Learn tricks and techniques to cope with toddler meltdowns, sleep, fussy eating.
Dr Niki Salt trained as a paediatrician and a GP. She has worked in a practice in Wandsworth for over 25 years, where she had a special interest in the health of children and families. Niki also teaches parents, medical students and doctors about issues relating to child health and parenting. Niki is the mum of two grown up children. When it comes to small children she’s seen it all.
For this session she’s talking about toddlers’ behaviour. This includes tantrums, biting, fussy eating, not sleeping and more. She’ll talk about the different ways that parents might respond and how this can make a difference to household harmony.
This is a free session for Home-Start Wandsworth families, volunteers and staff. Places are limited so please sign up below, and cancel your ticket if you can’t make it so it can go to somebody else.
The session is online, via Zoom, full instructions will be sent nearer the time.
TRIP TO KEW GARDENS- ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS

Join us for a coach trip to Kew Gardens: The Royal Botanic Gardens
A day trip out to Kew Gardens in Richmond with the family. Discover the beauty of its famous green houses, stunning gardens and fun activities for children. Please bring a picnic and a blanket to sit on. There is an inside playground if weather is wet.
Please pay a returnable £10 deposit per family to secure your place as with booking a coach we need to know numbers. This will be returned to you on the day.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BE PUNCTUAL AS THE COACH WILL NEED TO DEPART ON TIME.
BABY AND CHILD FIRST AID COURSE
Thursday 9th June 10.30-12.30
St Michaels Day Centre, Cobham Close, SW11 6SP
This first aid session will be run by Caroline from Daisy First Aid SW London and will last approx 2 hours.
The session will include learning first aid for babies (from birth up to 1 year) and children (from 1 up to 18 years old ) and will cover the following:
- How to deal with an emergency
- How to deal with a breathing unconscious casualty – How to put someone into the recovery position
- How to deal with a non breathing unconscious casualty – How to perform CPR
- How to use a Defibrillator
- Febrile Seizures (which can affect children up to the age of 4/5 years old)
- Head injuries (minor, concussion and serious head injuries)
- Meningitis awareness
- Choking – How to deal with a choking casualty – Baby and Children (and discuss ways of how we can prevent it in the first place)
- Severe Allergic Reactions called Anaphylaxis
- Broken bones
- Shock
- Bleeding
- Burns
- Poisons
We are delighted to offer this session face to face. Spaces are limited to 20, so book early!
Babies are welcome to attend with their Mums and Dads. There are limited places for Under 5’s in a small playroom staffed by Home-Start Wandsworth Volunteers, spaces will need to be booked in advance on the booking form.
Bookings and Cancellations
We ask that you cancel your place should you not be able to attend, so we can offer your place to someone else. If you find that there are no spaces left on booking, please get in touch with your Home-Start Coordinator, Clare or Carey who will put your name on the waiting list.

Please join us for a regular event in Fred Wells Gardens in Battersea. We will provide the food and drinks. Just bring a blanket and some favourite games for a fun afternoon out.
HOMESTART TRIP TO THE BEACH
TUESDAY 2ND August 10-5PM
JOIN US FOR A COACH TRIP TO THE BEACH: WEST WITTERING IN SUSSEX.
Pack your swimmers, towels, sunscreen and picnic and join us for a wonderful day on the beach. We will leave from outside our office at 10am, 20-22 York Road in Battersea, SW11 3QA, where a coach will collect us for 1hr45mins drive down to the beach. We will return to York Road by 5pm. Its a beautiful beach and a great day out for the family. There is a cafe there but best to bring your own picnic as it often has long queues and is quite expensive.
There is a £10 deposit to pay on this. We always ask for this when there is a coach being booked for the event. It will be returned to you on the day of the trip.

FAMILY FUN SESSION WITH OPEN AIR FIT

A morning of fun and games for families hosted by Open Air Fit.
Come and join us for some Summer fun and family games on Wandsworth Common on Tuesday 16th August, with Mel and his team at Open Air Fit.
All members of the family are welcome!
We will provide refreshments, please bring a rug or blanket to sit on and a picnic if you’d like to stay and have lunch with us.

We are back!! Apologies for the quietness on Hubs.
We have exciting news to share that Clare Wilson has joined our team and will be working with me on Hubs going forward.
We are working hard behind the scenes to get a full HUB program back up and running.
We would really appreciate it, if as many of you as possible fill out our survey on Hubs activities which you will be receiving before the end of the week.
Many of our activities will be returning with some new exciting ones added.
And some trips and family holiday activities as well as continuing with some online workshops.
