About Home-Start Wandsworth

Being a parent can be hard work and sometimes it can throw up challenges we are not prepared for. We offer practical and emotional support to any parent going through a difficult time.

Our volunteers are local parents trained to offer family support, friendship and practical help to young families just when they need it most. It is common knowledge that a stable and loving family home is vital for a child’s development and our aim is to help parents achieve this.

We do this by offering weekly visits to the home to help with issues ranging from isolation, post natal depression, multiple birth, addiction, domestic violence, illness or disability.

Home-Start Wandsworth was founded in 2007 by a group of local trustees.  They had seen the work of Home-Start in other London boroughs and throughout the UK and wanted to offer the same for families in Wandsworth. The vision became a reality in 2010 when the charity went ‘live’ and the first 10 volunteers were matched with families.

Volunteers receive 8 weeks of specialist training and are then carefully matched with a family. Through our volunteers’ commitment we have achieved really positive outcomes for our families and have witnessed amazing journeys for both volunteer and family.

The charity is now led by a highly dedicated and talented Trustee Board, chaired by Laura Lewis. In 2011 it successfully secured 5 year lottery funding to enable the recruitment of more staff, led by Sue Winter, Scheme Manager.

If you are interested in receiving help please see our ‘receive help’ page for more information or contact us directly via email or phone. You will find this information on our ‘contact us’ page.

If you are interested in offering support, there are many ways in which you can help us in our work. You can become a home-visiting volunteer and help families in their home or you could be a fundraising volunteer. We are always looking for people up for a challenge and willing to donate their proceeds to our cause. We also take donations for clothes and baby gear. We are not supported by Home-Start UK so all direct donations are greatly appreciated. The more money we raise – the more families we can support. As a local charity serving the needs of our local community we are always glad to hear from you.
